One of the top aquariums that is located at Channelside Drive in Tampa Bay – The Florida aquarium, which was established in 1995 and has educated almost two million students. Since the day of the aquarium opening, many animals have been rescued and there are approximately eight thousand plants and animals in the facility.

You will enter a world of sea life after spending your life surrounded by buildings and vehicles, which will be refreshing as well as educational and entertaining at the aquarium. Visiting the aquarium will give you the chance to see sea turtles, lemurs, rays, sharks, river otters and many more animals. Not only will you see these animals, but you will also learn how wonderful the ocean is and how the animals live in this large pool. You can even get a glimpse of how research, education and conservation for the Tampa Bay ocean life takes place.

Entrance and tickets

You can connect with the sea, the plants and the animals daily from 9.30am to 5.00pm except on Thanksgiving and Christmas day.

There are a few types of admission tickets that are available for those interested in Florida Aquarium. The general admission ticket is to all the daily activities and the exhibits at the Aquarium along with the outdoor includes Fins Bar, Four Ducks 4-D theatre and the Splash Pad. You can even change the general admission ticket to a combination ticket by adding on the Wild Dolphin Cruise with a Behind The Scenes tour.

If you visit the Aquarium too many times during the year, you can go for the option of getting an annual membership which includes many benefits such as free parking, discounts at many of the outlets at the Aquarium, free admission to the Aquarium as many times as you want for one year. You can get an individual annual or even up to eight persons annual membership.

If you are visiting the Aquarium with a group of fifteen or more, you will get a discounted entrance fee. You even have the option of getting a complimentary admission given that there is a minimum of thirty guests. You can add-on meal vouchers, the Wild Dolphin Cruises and get to experience the Behind the Scenes tour. If you want to take a classroom on their field trip, you can do this at the Florida Aquarium where you can add an educational program if you prefer. For every ten students, you can get one chaperones. Additional chaperone will be charged the same as the student rates.

If your child loves the life at sea, you can arrange their next birthday party at the Florida Aquarium. Children’s aged between one to twelve can celebrate their special day with friends and family surrounded by all the fishes at any of the six spaces available. You can choose from outdoor to indoor birthday venues. Do not forget that you will get the space for two hours, a party host from the Aquarium, one of the animal ambassadors and a mouth-watering birthday cake!

For those that are interested, you can reserve yourself for a spot in the swim and dive programs that are available for non-certified and certified divers.

Parking

As soon as you pull in at the entrance, you will find the parking lot in the north towards the east side of Channelside Drive. You will only have to pay $6 for parking and would get a glimpse of the waterfront and see the operations taking place at the Tampa Port, relax with a quiet glass of wine, witness a concert or watch a hockey game.

Food and drinks

Café Ray is open everyday from 9.30am to 4.30pm, which will provide you breakfast, lunch and snacks. The lunch and dinner menu consists of Panini sandwiches, salads, burgers, pizza, pasta and many more delicious dishes.

For student groups, there is a special picnic area that is shaded and is perfect for those who want to eat outside.

As the Aquarium and the facility are very sensitive, drinks and food are strictly not allowed inside the premises. Exceptions are made to baby food and bottles for infants.

Accessibility

For those who require special accessibility, this is readily available and arranged by the Aquarium. The entrance has an accessible for wheelchair users. If required, you can even rent wheelchairs for elderly or handicapped visitors who need support to get around the Aquarium. Rental wheelchairs cost $5.00.  There are special park spots available as well but is on first-come, first serve basis.

Another speciality of the Florida Aquarium is that the team has partnered with the Centre for Autism and related disability, University of South Florida to support those individuals who visit the Aquarium to enjoy the day without any difficulties.

Gift shop

Let’s not forget that if you want to get some souvenirs or educational material, you can visit the gift shop. You will even find some jewellery that you like! There is something for each and every person that visits the Florida Aquarium gift shop.

Safety and security

The Aquarium building is a smoke-free area, which means that you cannot use vapour and electronic cigarettes too. You can smoke outside the entrance of the building. Any hazardous substances or weapons will not be permitted in the Aquarium and if you possess them upon entrance, these must be disposed off before entering the building.

Getting There
